I was interested in the bold geometry and positive and negative design elements found in traditional shyrdak rugs. These pattern elements afford opportunities for hidden images and unexpected meaning. I like the idea of an image that you might only understand after you reach a certain age, or that you may only see if someone points it out to you, and once you see it, you'll never be able to look at the object without that knowledge - like a visual loss of innocence.
