Soft Sculpture

These amorphous forms were created primarily from handmade felt.  The technique I used is much like constructing a skin or container and this nuance of the process had an important impact on the evolution of the forms.  There is a tension here between the interior and the exterior; sculptures that appear to show the body’s outside will be interrupted by bulging or gaping insides, forms that reference interior organs will also show surface details that we recognize as belonging to the exterior of a body.
